A Little on Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Maps

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Maps: Starting Up

So I know I have yet to play all of the maps. Most of the time it seems to cycle through the same map 3 or 4 times before a lobby makes it into another series. So far it seems that this mostly happens with Hijacked and Carrier. An Almost Favorite Map and Second Least Favorite Map (so far). So here is some intial comments on some of the maps I have hit so far, actually the ones I hit last night in an hour some of play along with recollections of the night before.

Partial List of Multiplayer Maps

  • Hijacked
  • Carrier
  • Meltdown
  • Raid
  • Stand Off
  • Yemen
  • Express
  • Cargo

A few sentences or so on each (more on some than others)

Hijacked:
Huge private yacht, would have to be several hundred feet in real life. Two spawn spots, Bow and Stern. The Stern seems the better start spawn in my opinion. My best games on it include Stern Spawn, run to the right, stop where you can crouch down and shoot up towards the bow. Easy to get at least 2 kills that way. Always look up at the overhanging spots from amidships towards the Bow, easy to get a headshot on someone up there. The engineering like space never seems to have traffic so easy to transition from bow to stern and back with little interference. One match I had spawned on the bow, headed aft on the port side, threw my frag grenade before getting to the hot tub, got an alert that lethal grenades were not active for 1 second. So difficult to grenade out that way that fast.

Carrier:
My second least favorite map, with Raid being my least favorite one. The spawn spot by the helicopter is the better to hold down to take on the other side. UP against the blast shields is a great sniping spot.

Meltdown:
Nuclear power plant area. The middle reminds me of Launch and the Crossover spot in it. There is great long range shot options on the right side of that, from the bottom spawn point. One game of Capture The Flag had the other side place a Microwave Device just below the bottom Flag location and it held out.

Raid:
A Large House and immediate grounds make up this very small map. It is all SMGs for really close quarter fights. I suspect Shotguns will come into vogue on this map soon enough.

Yemen:
All windows, always look at the windows. always check the windows. Some tight alleys and narrow streets. From the upper spawn head to the left and look down over the statue like area. Often you can get a few people running that direction. Otherwise head down right and cut to the little wooden bridge and get them running that direction. After the opening keep checking the plentiful small rooms with windows that seem to be the main firing spots.

Express:
LA Bullet Train Station. Trains, Tracks, couple of elevated walk ways, an elevated control room (accessed by ladder only), and a large terminal area for transiting from side to side. A side note, the 2nd night the game was released my son went 28 and 2 with a Type 25 AR. Likely since it was night 2 it only had maybe a sight, if even that. A really good map, spawns are at either end of the tracks. Make sure at the opening to look along the tracks for people running along them.

Cargo:
Waterfront cargo containers, cranes, couple of flat areas on containers for cqb and long range shooting, one multilevel building with some sniping opportunities and some open spaces along the road. A really good map.

More on the other maps as they come up in gameplay.

Welcome to COD Irregulars

Call of Duty for the XBox Blogging
Welcome to the Inaugural Post of my fan rantings for the Call of Duty Game Series as released for the XBox 360.

Versions I own / Played include (With my abbreviations)

  • Call of Duty World at War - WaW
  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare - MW
  • Call of Duty Black Ops - BO
  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 - MW3
  • Call of Duty Black Ops 2 - BO2

So to start off, this is day 3 of BO2 being live and going. I picked up our Hardened Edition copy on the way home from work. Get home on Tuesday get it in and started into Multiplayer Mode. A good 95% of my games are Hardcore TDM, with occasionally jaunts into Hardcore Free For All. (On MW I spent the first close to 15 Ranks in nothing but Hardcore FFA and my KDR suffered greatly from that experience).

So on Tuesday Night there were I saw, 637k players. Did lose connectivity to the servers for close to an hour, during which I played 2 rounds of Zombies on Tranzit and started the Campaign. Once it seemed like MP was back live I headed back over there.

On Wednesday Night it peaked I saw at one point at 703k players with only about 5 spots of lag I saw in 3 some hours of steady playtime.

In about 7 hours of playtime reached Rank 8 with 1 weapon (MTAR) and Rank 7 with another (Type 25) with much lower rankings with the MP7 and the first LMG.

The starting off AR and SMG are very decent weapons. Not having to play only Core, able to play Hardcore right away was very nice. Class Customization starts at Level 4 so not a long wait at all.

The MTAR and the MP7 are good weapons. They both shoot straight. It takes more rounds than I like with the MP7, but I have that as an issue with all SMGs. That reflects more on my play style and accuracy (8 to 9 % range) than a real comment on the firearm in the game. The MTAR is very accurate, with the foregrip there is almost no muzzle raise in the game making it excellent for me and the ATOG scope. It still takes 4 or 5 rounds to put a target down, which is not too bad in comparison, and easy enough to do with an AR.
The second AR, the Type 25, is a little less accurate, faster to raise to ADS mode than the MTAR, with comparable actual knock down. So far those are all the ARs that I have used besides the Stock Classes and I did not spend enough time under Level 4 to really get a feel.

So a few random bits here.
Things I like about BO2 (as of right now)
MAPS
Game Play (My KDR was .93 last night and on the other games I tend to run in the .85 range so this is good for me)
The Textures and Environments (gorgeous)
Servers are doing well
Fast Connections to new matches
Difference in feel from one weapon to another
Scorestreaks vice Killstreaks

Things I am Disliking about BO2 (as of right now)
Scorestreaks (Takes more effort to reach UAV in example)
Detail Level so far in the Career Data. This might improve as more data accumulates.
Emblem Editor (Some setting in my profile prevents me from viewing player made content, still reseaching why)
No Claymores till Level 53 (Very unhappy about that and I might not prestige just so I can hold onto Claymores once they are reached)
Grenades (Not as far of a throw, 5 second delay, not as lethal as in the previous version. Those refer to Frag Grenades, I have not used a Token to unlock Semtex Grenades yet.)

Things I am on the fence about in BO2 (as of right now)
How the Barracks is laid out to find data, locate challenges, review stats, make changes, etc.
How well the Tokens are working out for customization
Perks and how they affect gameplay (Example being Engineer a combo of Hardline Pro (Hack Crates) and Stalker Pro fm MW3 (Delay Explosives). I think it is a good idea to allow for people to customize, I am hoarding mine so far.

So how do I rate Black Ops 2
Definitely 2 Thumbs Up at this point. Today will be Day 3 playing and I anticipate having a good night of shooting.

More along with Map Impressions as time passes.
